Inochi doesn't host classes on this page — these are the best free resources our instructors actually recommend. Picking up Hiragana, Katakana, and basic vocabulary before joining classroom training puts you well ahead on day one.
Want to go further? Inochi runs 180-hour JLPT/JFT preparation courses with BSSAJ-certified Japanese instructors (including Japanese nationals). Book a free counselling session to start.
Flashcard
Tap any card to flip and reveal the romaji. Use the chart mode for the full 46-character grid, or random mode for quick self-quizzing.
Tip: finish Hiragana first (~2–3 weeks), then Katakana. 15 minutes a day is enough.
JLPT N5 Syllabus
N5 is the easiest JLPT level — understand basic conversation and simple text. Focus on the five areas below.
Master both 46-character syllabaries first — no Japanese learning starts without them. Aim for fluent reading in 2–3 weeks.
Numbers, days, time, basic verbs (行く, 来る, 食べる, 飲む), people (人, 男, 女), places (国, 山, 川).
Daily life: family, food, transport, weather, school, shopping, basic adjectives, time expressions.
です/ます forms, は/が/を/に particles, い-adjectives, な-adjectives, ~て form, past tense, basic counters.
Understand short conversations spoken slowly: greetings, self-intro, simple shopping, asking directions.
